Transition - The Old Place is a representative Pop Art work by the Chinese contemporary artist Hu Nan. The painting constructs a dramatic spatial narrative through strong geometric composition and high-contrast colors: deep purple human silhouettes are interwoven with black-and-white checkerboard patterns, while nested mirror structures continuously reflect and replicate the subject. The collision of yellow, purple, and black blocks creates an atmosphere of “the old place” that is both familiar and alien.
