Forming the Classic Story No. 1 is a representative abstract work by the Chinese contemporary artist Wang Yigang, created in 2015 as part of his eponymous series. The painting deconstructs the boundaries of traditional narrative through highly expressive impasto textures and intense colors: thick layers of oil paint form chaotic yet powerful color blocks, where vivid red, cobalt blue, and inky black collide. These almost violent brushstrokes dissolve the established meanings inherent in classic stories.
